The begining of the small cars in india with the launch of Maruti 800 which was a joint venture between Government of India and Suzuki Motors Corporation. And in no time it became the first choice of most of the families in India. Next to join the band wagon was South Korean company Hyundai which launched its Santro in 1998, followed by another Korean car maker Daewoo that launched Matiz. By the year 1999 Tata group launched their first car Indica. Italian company Fiat also joined the league of small car manufacturers with the launch of Palio Stile.

After General Motors over took Daewoo, General Motors India entered the small car market with the launch of its much awaited mini car – The Chevrolet Spark. The entry of Chevrolet Spark has intensified the competition in the small segment. Chevrolet Spark offers better value for money proposition than its closest competitor Maruti Zen Estilo. With its new design Spark looks more contemporary. The latest introduction in this segment has been Hyundai i10 which was launched in November last year. However, the car that is going to bring about a revolution in the small car segment is Tata’s 1-lakh car Nano which due for launch in the third quarter of the next fiscal. The Tata Nano was showcased in the 9th Auto Expo in New Delhi this year which received an overwhelming response by people at large. Tata is also going to launch its new Indica shortly.

General Motors launches its cars in India under the brand name of Chevrolet. General Motors cars in India have touched the new heights under the Chevrolet name. Tavera is one of the Chevrolet products. Tavera due to its better space and average is more reliable to the buyers as compare to the other cars in its class. The Chevrolet Optra Magnum – a TCDi diesel sedan in the premium car segment – was launched by General Motors India in mid 2007. The Optra Magnum comes with a 2.0-litre TCDi (Turbocharged Common Rail Direct Injection) engine that utilizes second-generation common rail technology. The new engine also has an Electric Vacuum Control Turbo, which further enhances performance. The Optra Magnum is faster and more powerful than most of the petrol driven cars currently in the market.The Optra Magnum boasts additional technological innovations like a dual mass flywheel, which significantly reduces vibration while idling, and a balanced shaft module, which ensures refined and smooth engine operation. It also helps improve NVH, as less energy is lost due to vibrating parts. It comes equipped with disc brakes in back and ventilated disc brakes up front.

The Optra Magnum has a bold look in front that complements its performance.  The restyled bumper, headlamps, grille and side fenders give it a more aggressive appearance while retaining the excellent proportions overall. The headlamps are almond shaped and come with a full chrome bezel. This was done uniquely for India to cater to local tastes. The grille has a more prominent and much larger Chevrolet bowtie than before.
